Early settlers in Macomb Township arrived during the first half of the 19th century. Most of them settled near the Clinton River, where the area cultivates good farming condition as the need for sustainability are a necessity back then. Majority of these early settlers came from Germany which explains why the townships still have influences of German descent today. On March 7, 1834, the Legislative Council officially accepted the town’s petition as Macomb Township.

Named after a courageous and highly decorated War of 1812 veteran, General Alexander Macomb, he became a very successful mercantile. At one time, their family owned most of Macomb Township. The township initially had a thriving lumber and logging industry in Southeast Michigan during the later 19th century and lasting until the early 20th century. Lumbermen transport these logs from Wolcott Mill to sawmill in Ray Township to Branch Clinton River. As this route became common, residents called this Romeo Plank which still exists today. Daniel Kniffens was recorded as one of the first residents of Macomb Township who settled on the middle part of the Clinton River, later called as the 25 Mile and Romeo Plank Roads.

Today, Macomb Township has great residential communities, beautiful parks, has a thriving commercial and industrial economy.
